UTAG Initiates A Scholarship Program To Support Students Affected By The Akosombo Dam Spillage

 





The University Teachers Association of Ghana Secretariat has made it known to the general public that they will be opening a scholarship fund to support students affected by the Akosombo Dam Spillage last year.


In a statement they have released that was issued by their administrative secretary, Dr . I. K. Abdul Hamid it states ” If you are a student in any of the affected communities and currently enrolled or continuing your studies at one(1) of the fifteen(15) public universities of Ghana, you are qualified to apply for this scholarship” The Application period is between Monday, 15th January and Friday, 26th January 2024.

This scholarship will financial aid for tuition fees, books and other living expenses. The goal of this scholarship is to enable students to pursue their education amidst the difficulties their families may encounter. There is a faith in the transformative impact of education on lives and this scholarship reflects a dedication to assist students fulfill their educational goals.


The Association(UTAG) urged stakeholders to visit: http://www.utag.edu.gh for more information and to acess the application forms. UTAG earlier said that the relief assistance extended to victims, especially students, is response to the Akosombo Dam flood disaster was insufficient.


During a presentation of their report on a swift evaluation of the consequences, especially in eight districts affected by the dam spillage and ensuing floods. UTAG underscored the insufficient emergency responses from diverse entities, including the government. Nevertheless, the association has stressed the immediate requirement for increased assistance in education and other vital facets of social life.


The Association has committed to providing support with an initial fund of GHS 200,000 for students in chosen communities within the affected areas through the UTAG Educational Relief Fund, benefitting all student victims entering any of the 15 member universities.
